FAQ's

A Children’s Health appointment is a visit with your GP to talk about any health concern for your baby, child or teenager. This might be a fever, cough, rash, behaviour change or routine check. Your doctor will assess your child, explain what they find and outline a clear plan for next steps.

Bring your child for a Children’s Health appointment if they have a persistent fever, trouble breathing, ongoing pain, poor feeding, fewer wet nappies, a worrying rash or you feel something is not right. Trust your instincts. If your child seems very unwell or difficult to wake, call 000 or go to emergency.

At a Children’s Health check up, your GP asks about birth history, growth, feeding, sleep, development and any concerns. They will check weight, height and general examination and may suggest vaccinations or tests. You can ask questions about milestones, school readiness, behaviour and anything else that is on your mind.

Childhood Immunisations are a key part of Children’s Health care. Your GP or nurse follows the National Immunisation Program, checks what is due and explains each vaccine. They will discuss common side effects and when to seek help. Records are updated so you have the right documents for childcare and school.

The 6 week baby check is a detailed Children’s Health visit for young babies. Your GP reviews growth, feeding, nappies, sleep, hips, heart, eyes and skin. Many babies receive vaccines at this visit. You will also have time to talk about your own recovery and mental health as a parent.

Within Children’s Health, the Paediatric Clinic offers GP care for babies, children and teens with ongoing or more complex needs. This can include asthma, allergies, eczema, constipation, headaches, behaviour and learning concerns. Your GP can coordinate referrals to paediatricians, psychologists and therapists when extra support is needed.

Yes, Child and Adolescent Mental Health is an important part of Children’s Health care. Your GP can help with worries, low mood, school stress, behaviour changes and sleep problems. They may create a mental health care plan, suggest strategies for home and school and refer to psychologists when needed.

Most Children’s Health GP visits attract a Medicare rebate for eligible patients, which reduces your out of pocket cost. Fees depend on appointment length and clinic billing. Some checks and care plans may have extra support. Our reception team can explain current fees and rebates before you book, so you know what to expect.

Younger children are usually seen with a parent or carer. Older children and teenagers may sometimes wish to speak with the GP alone for parts of a Children’s Health visit, especially for sensitive topics. Your doctor will explain how confidentiality works and balance privacy with safety and family involvement.

We understand that sometimes you may wish to discuss sensitive matters pertaining to your child without them present. Your Doctor can discuss with you the most appropriate way to address these concerns and our team can help you book accordingly.

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, caring, and efficient service in a confidential manner.
