Minor Procedures are small medical procedures that can be safely done in our clinic, such as treating wounds, removing some skin lesions, performing simple biopsies or managing ingrown toenails. Your GP will explain the steps, possible risks and aftercare so you know what to expect before you decide.

Minor Procedures can help with cuts that need stitches, small cysts, some moles or sun spots, ingrown toenails, some abscesses and certain joint or soft tissue problems. Your GP will examine the area first and discuss whether treatment at the clinic is suitable or if a specialist referral is safer.

Often you will need an initial appointment before a Minor Procedure so your GP can assess the problem, talk through options, discuss costs and book enough time. This visit also lets you ask questions about the procedure and aftercare. Reception can advise if a separate assessment is required for your concern.

During a Minor Procedure, your GP confirms the plan, checks your consent and allergies, then cleans the area carefully. They may use a local anaesthetic so you stay comfortable. After the procedure, a dressing is applied and aftercare instructions are given. You will be told if a follow up visit is needed.

Most Minor Procedures involve some brief discomfort, especially when local anaesthetic is given. After that, you may feel pressure rather than sharp pain. Your GP will explain what you might feel and can pause if you need a break. You will also be told how to manage any soreness at home.

Many Minor Procedures attract a Medicare rebate for eligible patients, but there may still be an out of pocket cost. Fees can include both the consultation and a procedure item. Costs vary by procedure. Our reception team can explain likely fees, Medicare rebates and any consumable charges before you book your procedure.

Before a Minor Procedure, follow any instructions your GP gives you, such as fasting if required for a specific procedure. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. Bring a list of your medicines and tell your doctor about blood thinners or allergies before the procedure begins.

After a Minor Procedure, you will usually receive written and verbal aftercare instructions. These may include how to keep the area clean, when to change dressings, limits on activity and when to return for stitch removal or review. Contact the clinic if you notice increasing pain, redness, swelling or other concerns.

Whether you can drive or work after a Minor Procedure depends on the type and location of the procedure and your job. Some people can return to light duties the same day. Others may need time off. Your GP will advise you beforehand so you can plan transport and work arrangements safely.
