What We Help With

Menopause & Hormone Support at Ocean Village Medical Centre helps women and people assigned female at birth through perimenopause, menopause and the years after. Our GPs listen, explain what is happening in everyday language and work with you on a plan that supports your comfort, mood, sleep and long term health.

Common Topics

We can help you understand why your periods are changing, what is typical for perimenopause and when extra checks are needed. Your GP can suggest ways to track symptoms and decide the right time for review.

Your GP can talk through hot flushes, night sweats and trouble sleeping, and how these affect your daily life. Together you can explore lifestyle changes, cooling strategies and treatment options that may ease symptoms.

Midlife hormone shifts can affect mood, anxiety and how you feel in your own skin. Your GP will listen to your concerns, check for other causes and discuss supports such as lifestyle changes, talking therapies and, when appropriate, medicines.

Vaginal dryness, discomfort during sex and bladder symptoms are common in menopause but often not spoken about. Your GP can explain why they occur, offer examination only with consent and discuss treatment options that support comfort and sexual wellbeing.

FAQ's

Menopause & Hormone Support at our clinic is for women and people assigned female at birth who are in perimenopause, menopause or post menopause. It covers symptoms like hot flushes, mood changes, sleep problems and long term health risks. If you are unsure what stage you are in, a menopause appointment is a good place to start.

Perimenopause usually begins with changes in your cycle, such as more frequent, less frequent or heavier periods, along with symptoms like hot flushes or mood swings. Menopause is when you have had no period for 12 months. Your GP can review your symptoms, history and sometimes tests to help work out your stage.

Blood tests are not always needed for Menopause & Hormone Support, especially if you are over 45 with typical symptoms and changing periods. In some situations, such as earlier menopause, surgical menopause or complex medical histories, your GP may suggest tests. Together you can decide what is useful and how results will guide your care.

Yes. Menopause & Hormone Support can include lifestyle strategies, non medicine options and, where appropriate, hormone based treatments. Your GP will talk through your symptoms, medical history and preferences, then explain the possible benefits and risks so you can decide what feels right for you.

Hormone based menopause treatments are not suitable for everyone. Your GP will review your personal and family history, including blood clots, breast cancer and heart disease, before making any recommendations. Menopause & Hormone Support always includes discussion of risks, benefits and alternative options in your situation.

Yes. Menopause & Hormone Support is also for people who finished menopause some time ago but still have symptoms such as vaginal dryness, pain with sex, mood changes or low energy. Your GP can assess your current concerns, review other health conditions and discuss support options at any stage.

Mood swings, low mood, anxiety and feeling unlike yourself are common reasons to seek Menopause & Hormone Support. Your GP can help you explore whether symptoms relate to hormones, life stress, other health issues or a mix of these. Support might include lifestyle changes, counselling and, when appropriate, medicines.

Weight and body shape often change around midlife, especially around the waist. In Menopause & Hormone Support, your GP can check for other health issues, talk about realistic nutrition and movement changes and suggest supports that focus on long term health rather than strict diets or quick fixes.

Telehealth can be helpful for some Menopause & Hormone Support needs, such as follow up visits, reviewing test results and adjusting plans. When a physical examination or certain checks are needed, your GP will recommend a face to face visit. Our reception team can help you choose the best appointment type.

Menopause & Hormone Support consultations are usually billed at our standard GP rates, with longer or more complex visits attracting a higher fee. Medicare rebates often apply, which reduce your out of pocket cost. For current fee information, please see our Fees page or contact our reception team.

We are committed to providing gentle, respectful Women’s Health care that supports your needs, values and privacy at every visit.
