Contraceptive Care at our clinic is for women and people assigned female at birth of all ages who want to avoid pregnancy now or plan for the future. You do not need a referral for Contraceptive Care. You can book directly with your chosen GP or the first available doctor. If you later need specialist input, your GP will organise a referral and explain why it is recommended and what to expect next.

Contraceptive Care appointments can cover many options, including short acting and longer acting methods. Your GP will ask about your health, periods, lifestyle and pregnancy plans, then explain how each option works, possible side effects and how to use it correctly. Some GPs can also insert and remove long acting devices such as hormonal IUDs and contraceptive implants.

Choosing contraception is personal. In a Contraceptive Care visit, your GP considers your age, health conditions, medicines, period pattern, comfort with procedures and future pregnancy plans. You will have time to ask questions and talk through pros and cons so you can decide what feels right for you.

Your GP may suggest adjusting your current method or changing to a different type, which may include a longer acting option such as an IUD or contraceptive implant if suitable for you.

Yes. Emergency contraception can be discussed as part of Contraceptive Care. Your GP can explain the different options, how they work, when they are most effective and any follow up needed. They can also help you plan ongoing contraception so you feel more confident about future protection.

Teenagers can book Contraceptive Care appointments to talk about contraception and safer sex. GPs aim to create a safe, respectful space and follow privacy and consent laws. In many situations, discussions remain confidential unless there are serious safety concerns. Your GP can explain this clearly at the visit.
