What We Help With

Reproductive & Family Planning care at Ocean Village Medical Centre supports women and people assigned female at birth at every stage. Whether you are choosing contraception, planning a pregnancy or have questions about your cycles and fertility, our GPs are here to listen, explain your options in plain English and work with you on a plan that fits your life and goals.

Common Topics

We can help you choose, start or change contraception so it fits your health, relationships and future plans. Your GP will explain how each option works, possible side effects and how to use it correctly.

Family Planning appointments give you space to talk about if and when you might like to have children. Together with your GP, you can explore spacing between pregnancies and options that keep future choices open.

Pre Pregnancy Counselling lets you check in before trying for a baby. Your GP can review your medical history, medicines and lifestyle, and suggest steps that support your fertility and a healthy pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Antenatal Care visits can cover early pregnancy concerns, routine checks and shared care where appropriate. Your GP can explain what to expect in each stage and when other supports or referrals may be helpful.

FAQ's

Reproductive & Family Planning care at our clinic is for women and people assigned female at birth of all ages. It covers contraception, fertility, preconception planning and pregnancy related questions. If you are thinking about avoiding pregnancy or planning one, a Reproductive & Family Planning appointment is a good place to start.

You do not need a referral to see a GP for Reproductive & Family Planning. You can book directly with your chosen doctor or the first available GP. If you later need to see a specialist, your GP will provide a referral and explain why it is recommended.

Reproductive & Family Planning appointments can cover many contraception options, including short term and longer acting methods. Your GP will ask about your health, lifestyle and preferences, then explain the pros and cons of each option. Together you can choose a method that feels right for you and your situation.

Choosing contraception is a key part of Reproductive & Family Planning. Your GP will consider your age, medical history, period pattern, future pregnancy plans and how you feel about taking medicines or having procedures. You will have time to ask questions so you can make an informed decision.

Some GPs can provide procedures for certain long acting contraception devices as part of Reproductive & Family Planning care. If your GP does not offer a specific procedure, they can refer you to another doctor or clinic that does. You will always have a chance to discuss the steps and any costs beforehand.

Preconception care is an important part of Reproductive & Family Planning. Your GP will review your medical history, medicines, vaccinations, family history and lifestyle. They may recommend blood tests or supplements and suggest steps that support a healthy pregnancy. It is helpful to book a longer appointment if you have several questions.

Reproductive & Family Planning can include support for fertility concerns. As a general guide, many people see their GP if they have been trying to fall pregnant for 12 months, or 6 months if they are older or have known medical conditions. You can also book sooner if you are worried at any time.

Yes. Reproductive & Family Planning appointments provide a safe, non judgemental space to talk about unplanned pregnancy. No. Reproductive & Family Planning is also for people who want to avoid pregnancy, are unsure about their future plans or simply want to understand their body better. You can talk to your GP about contraception, spacing pregnancies, egg and fertility health, and what to consider for the future.

Yes. Young people can book Reproductive & Family Planning appointments to discuss contraception and sexual health. GPs follow privacy and consent laws and aim to create a safe, respectful space. In many cases, what is discussed remains confidential, unless there are serious safety concerns. Your GP can explain this clearly at the visit.

We are committed to providing gentle, respectful Women’s Health care that supports your needs, values and privacy at every visit.
